Clare O’Gara is a PhD student in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin — Madison.

I study what people make and do with and through digital technologies. My research explores how cultural production contours identity and power across and beyond cyberspace. I believe that media literacy is only possible when we extend critical attention to texts, performances, and embodiments historically dismissed as frivolous and artless.

My additional research interests include: micro-celebrity and the influencer industry; platform studies; internet histories; queer and trans identity, culture, and theory; sports media.
